A California man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his own mother. Moises Meraz-Espinoza was 18-years-old when he skinned, filleted and dismembered Amelia Espinoza in February of 2011. The teen confessed to police after they found a trail of blood and an electrical circular saw, with bone, blood and flesh stuck to the blade, in his apartment. “I don’t know what I can say to turn your life around, but you’ll have a lot of time to think about it,” Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Thomas McKnew, Jr. told Meraz-Espinoza at his sentencing.
McKnew dubbed the horrific killing the “most disgusting, hideous and vulgar” of any he had seen in his 50 years of legal work. Meraz-Espinoza had covered the walls and floor of his bathroom with plastic before the slaughter, in a clear act of premeditation. After murdering his mother, he stored pieces of her skin and muscle in plastic bags in his freezer. KTLA5 reported that the woman’s skull, with all her teeth plucked out, her eyes removed and two upside-down crosses carved into the bone, was stashed in a backpack. The 42-year-old’s organs have never been found.
According to CBS Los Angeles, coroner’s officials said Espinoza died of asphyxia and neck compression. Her son then skinned her with box cutters before dismembering her body with a chainsaw and removing all of her organs.
There is no doubt about the fact that Meraz-Espinoza is the sickest of sociopaths. His calm demeanor as he waltzed into the Huntington Park Police Department to turn himself in proves as much. “He came into our station and said to us that he had killed his mother,” said sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.
Deputy District Attorney Heba Matta claimed that the senseless murder was part of a Satanic ritual. A Satanic Bible, with a chapter on human sacrifice, was found in the home the mother and son shared. Meraz-Espinoza was “heavily entrenched in” satanic beliefs, even getting a tattoo of an upside down cross shortly after being thrown in jail. He also has “666” tattooed behind his right ear.
The date of the murder, February 2, 2011, fell on a day in the Satanic calendar which calls for ritual human or animal sacrifice. The date, which is also celebrated as Groundhog Day, falls halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox and has pagan roots, as noted by MailOnline. New Satanist worshippers are initiated with acts of oral or anal sex and/or ritual sacrifice during this time.
“This crime was not in the heat of passion or rash and impulsive,” Matta said. “It was done for the purpose of devotion. That’s pretty much the ultimate sacrifice.” He added, “This was sheerly motivated by evil.”
It’s hard to imagine that justice could ever be served in a case of such a brutally violent murder, but do you believe that Moises Meraz-Espinoza got what he deserved? Leave your thoughts below.
