The trial for the former marine accused of killing Chris Kyle is set to begin soon as jury selection is already underway.
Eddie Ray Routh has been charged with killing Kyle, 38, and Kyle’s friend Chad Littlefield, at a Texas shooting range on February 2, 2013.
According to Daily Mail, Routh’s mother had requested Kyle help him with his Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, which is why he was with him the day he was killed. Routh had struggled with PTSD since serving as a small arms technician in Iraq before he left the marines in 2010.
Routh has plead not guilty by reason of insanity, and opening statements are expected to be presented next Wednesday. 800 potential jurors have been summoned for possible selection, and 12 of them will be chosen to serve on the jury.
The nation will undoubtedly be hooked on the trial, as the film based on Kyle’s life, American Sniper, is currently breaking box office records around the globe.
