Leah Rogers and Ryan Flanaghan were at a yard sale in the U.K. when they came across an adorable beanie baby. They bought it for just $15, but they quickly found out that this was no ordinary stuffed animal.
The bear was actually a limited edition Princess Diana Di Beanie Baby, which happens to be the rarest beanie baby in existence. Only about 100 bears of this limited edition beanie baby were made. The tag on the rare stuffed animal reads, “Like an angel she came from heaven above; she shared her compassion, her pain, her love; she only stayed with us long enough to teach the world to share, to give, to reach.”
The couple was actually selling some stuff of their own in the sale, and they took to the internet to research their items to make sure they weren’t selling anything too valuable.
“As we were looking, we saw that this purple bear was the rarest bear and it was going for around £20,000 ($30,000),” Leah recounted. “We didn’t think anything of it.”
“When we went to the car boot sale the next day, Ryan went off for a walk and came back clutching this bag,” she added. “He said, ‘It’s that bear that we saw on the internet last night.’”
When they got home, the couple found that this particular beanie baby can sell for as much as $93,750. They have since decided to sell it from the starting bid, however, which was set at $30,000. They plan to use the money to put a down payment on a house.
“We couldn’t believe it. We picked it up for £10 ($15) and it could be worth tens of thousands,” Leah concluded. “It’s so hard for young people to get on the property ladder so we think this could really be a blessing.”
