Police evacuated the U.S. Capitol and visitor’s center on Tuesday, offering no explanation other than saying it was an “emergency.”
“An evacuation has been ordered for U.S. Capitol Visitor Center due to an audible alarm,” police said in a message to congressional offices. “Remain calm and move in a safe manner to the exits.”
Hundreds of tourists were forced out of the building and onto the East Lawn. One tourist was Fink Arthur, a 28 year-old from Germany who said that his tour guide believed it was a test at first. Then, however, the guide led the group out of the building.
This comes just hours after a top NATO official warned that we will “probably be at war this summer.”
