The news director for a Fox affiliate in western Montana has been shot dead in an attempted double murder-suicide.

Kalee Scolatti, the 34 year-old news director for ABC/FOX Montana, was at her home in Missoula with the 36 year-old male shooter on Wednesday night when she called her friend Anthony Dupras, 46, and asked him to come over. When he arrived, the gunman opened fire on them and killed them both.

A neighbor called police at 6:40 p.m. after hearing Scolatti’s screams, and they arrived on the scene to find that the shooter had turned the gun on himself. He survived, however, and is currently in critical condition.

Police are currently investigating this case and no motive has been released as of yet.

The FOX community is currently in mourning for Scolatti, who was a treasured member of the staff in Montana. KTMF station manager Tom Ciprari described her as a “kind, passionate, and respectful leader.”

“Her smile would light up a room,” Ciprari said in a statement. “Her laugh was contagious. Her compassion and intelligence motivated dozens of young co-workers over the course of a decade.”

“Our hearts are broken; not just for Kalee’s work family, but also for Kalee’s three children, parents, brother and friends,” he added. “She will be dearly missed.”

The station also paid tribute to Scolatti on their website, saying she “brought energy and excitement to every project she touched” and “will continue to be a strong influence and inspiration for all of us.”

“She will be so desperately missed by all who were lucky enough to know her,” KTMF added.

Scolatti graduated from the University of Montana’s School of Journalism in 2005 and KTMF immediately “snatched her up.” The married mother of three will be remembered for her joyous nature and her love of laughter.

Though the Fox community is mourning Scolatti’s death, they are also celebrating record ratings as they continue to dominate their competition. Studies show that Americans trust Fox more than any other news network, which gives the channel a major edge over their liberal competitors.
