Americans spoke loud and clear in a new poll, stating that they want to replace Andrew Jackson with Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill.
Tubman was an escaped slave. The poll was a campaign to find a replacement for Jackson on the bill — it is the opinion of the poll-makers that there are too many white men on American currency.
The poll featured two rounds of voting. During the first round, Americans voted for one of the following women to be the new face of the $20 bill: Harriet Tubman, Wilma Mankiller, Eleanor Roosevelt, or Rosa Parks. Then
Tubman won by a sizable margin, getting almost 120,00 votes. Roosevelt took second place. A total of over 750,000 Americans cast their votes in the poll.
The power to chance American currency does not lie in Congress. The only person who is able to make the change is Jack Lew, the Secretary of Treasury. Lew is a die-hard leftist who was appointed by Obama.
Given the recent lobbying efforts to change the $20 bill — which are bolstered by the recent new poll — it is not unlikely that Lew would make the change.
According to recent reports, Obama thinks putting Tubman on the bill is a “pretty good idea.”
