For weeks now, we have been reporting on Operation Jade Helm, a military training exercise that is set to take place in Texas this summer.
The training exercise will involve troops “wearing civilian clothes and driving civilian vehicles” to blend in with “civilian populations.” The operation lists Utah and Texas as “hostile territory,” likely because these are two of the most conservative states in the country.
Now, U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary member Dakota Durham has come forward to address many of the conspiracy theories that surround Jade Helm. He told the press that he will be taking part in the second phase of the exercise, which involves “routine anti-terrorism and counter-terrorism drills.”
According to Conservative Tribune, Durham claimed that the first part of the drill was meant to “simulate a large-scale war in the Middle East … especially with Iran.”
However, what he said next was surprising: when Durham was asked if he knew of anyone involved in Jade Helm who was questioning the truth behind the exercise, he said that nobody was. In fact, he said that he was stunned by America’s response to the exercise.
“The majority of us are pretty offended and hurt by how everyone has been treating us,” Durham said. “We’ve been called invaders, occupiers, Nazis, you name it.”
Durham added that many of the men and women participating in the exercises, including himself, live in the states that have been labeled as “hostile.”
“I live in Utah,” Durham explained. “We come from these areas; these are our homes, our families, the things we love. All of a sudden the people treat us like enemies who wish to take their rights when that is not true at all.”
He continued to say that many people involved in the operation are “conservative” and that he and his fellow troops “would die for the Bill of Rights in a heartbeat.”
If this is true, than why were certain states labeled as hostile? According to Durham, there was no dark purpose behind this. Instead, it was meant to have the U.S. geographically mirror the Middle East for the purpose of their exercises.
“Texas became Iran,” Durham explained. “Utah became Turkey. New Mexico is Iraq. Nevada is Greece. Arizona is Jordan. California is Israel. Southern California is Palestine.”
In the end, Durham said that he and his fellow soldiers just want respect from the American people as they do their jobs.
“We do this job because we love you, our homes, and our freedoms,” he said. “We would like to be seen as such.”
What do you think about what Durham had to say? Do you believe him, or is this yet another ploy from Obama to make us more “comfortable” with martial law? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
