After a year of turmoil for the talk show host The View, conservative cohost Nicolle Wallace was abruptly fired on Wednesday.
Wallace had served as the token conservative on the panel since September, but ABC declined to renew her contract for next year and instead offered her a different deal in which she would make sporadic appearances on the show. She has yet to announce whether she will be signing this contract, or leaving the show altogether.
According to Variety, the former communications chief for George W. Bush disappointed ABC by not offering enough dissent in her political views and showing a lack of knowledge about celebrities. Often times Wallace would submit to the ramblings of nitwit liberals like Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg instead of arguing with them.
Hurt by her firing, Wallace did not appear on Wednesday’s episode of The View. She returned on Thursday to address the decision in a very odd way when she defended her knowledge of the Kardashians. After hearing that Deadline’s Lisa Morales had written that she was fired because she “was not up to speed on the Kardashians and not shrill enough to be The View’s conservative talking head,” Wallace tried to defend herself humorously.
“Even I have a line that cannot be crossed. Don’t ever diss my Kardashian knowledge,” Nicole Wallace said on Thursday’s show, according to Jezebel.
This decision comes months after Rosie O’Donnell and then Rosie Perez were each fired from the panel, leaving Whoopi Goldberg as the sole survivor from this year. Goldberg has no choice but to remain on the show, since her contract does not expire until the end of next year.
Experts say Wallace will likely be replaced by someone like Full House actress Candace Cameron-Bure, who recently got into an argument with new View host Raven-Symone in which she vehemently denounced gay marriage.
