Russian President Vlademir Putin has issued a statement to American Christians in an attempt to let us know why our president has let our country’s morals slide.

“Many Euro-Atlantic countries have moved away from their roots, including Christian values,” President Putin said in a recent speech, according to Conservative Tribune. “Policies are being pursued that place on the same level a multi-child family and a same-sex partnership, a faith in God and a belief in Satan. This is the path to degradation.”

This is a clear slight at Obama, who recently helped bring about the legalization of gay marriage in the U.S. Russia’s chief prelate, Patriarch Kirill I of the Orthodox Russian church, reaffirmed Putin’s beliefs in recent speech of his.

“The general political direction of the (Western political) elite bears, without doubt, an anti-Christian and anti-religious character,” Patriarch Kirill said.

Putin rarely sided with the conservative majority in Russia during his first term in office, but protests in 2011 and 2012 forced him to cater to the people more. Since then, he has reinvented himself as a crusader for the religious right, making him a major enemy of Obama’s.

“Western values, from liberalism to the recognition of the rights of sexual minorities, from Catholicism and Protestantism to comfortable jails for murderers, provoke in us suspicion, astonishment and alienation,” said Yevgeny Bazhanov, rector of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s diplomatic academy.

While we certainly wouldn’t call ourselves Putin supporters, he definitely does have a point about what Obama has done to this country. Our current president has destroyed many of the core values this country was founded on, and we may never be able to get those back.
