Over the last few days, we’ve been reporting on the controversy surrounding the comments Donald Trump made about Mexico during his campaign announcement last week.
In his speech, Trump slammed the U.S.’s relationship with Mexico, saying it has become a huge problem. He also said that too many criminals are coming into this country illegally from Mexico, and called many of them “rapists.”
Outraged by his comments, the Spanish-language television station Univision immediately announced that they would not be broadcasting Trump’s Miss Universe pageant this summer. Days later, NBC followed suit by ending their relationship with Trump, which they had built for over a decade.
Last Tuesday, the hosts of the Miss USA competition both abruptly quit, leaving the July 12 pageant without a host. Mexico also dropped out of the Miss Universe pageant as a boycott of Trump and his comments.
It wasn’t all bad news for Trump, however. The Miss USA pageant was picked up by the channel Reelz, and by the end of the week Trump was second in the GOP polls.
Despite these victories, the liberal backlash against Trump continued into the weekend. When All-Pro NFL great Emmitt Smith announced his decision to “not to participate as a judge in the 2015 Miss USA pageant,” Trump did not hesitate to respond.
“Who cares?” he told Fox News host Greta Van Susteren when she revealed Smith’s decision to him. “I don’t care if he’s in the pageant business. I mean what difference does it make?”
“We’ll get other judges,” the outspoken billionaire added, according to Conservative Tribune.
Clearly, the super-liberal Smith is not nearly as important to Trump or the Miss USA pageant as he would like to believe. We love that Trump is not afraid to tell it like it is and give liberals like Smith the dose of reality they so desperately need!
