Deadliest Catch captain Tony Lara died this past Saturday in Sturgis, South Dakota during the town’s famous motorcycle rally. He was 50 years-old.
According to Daily Mail, Meade County Sheriff Ron Merwin said that Lara died in his sleep early Saturday morning at a private residence in Sturgis. The sheriff is currently awaiting autopsy results that will help determine Lara’s cause of death.
Lara was a veteran crab catcher who took over as captain of the Cornelia Marie boat after former captain Phil Harris suffered a stroke in 2010. The boat has been featured on the popular Discovery Channel reality show since 2004.
