Country music legend Eddie Montgomery got some devastating news this weekend when his son suddenly died in a mysterious “accident.”
According to Daily Mail, 19 year-old Hunter Montgomery died in a Kentucky hospital surrounded by his family after a mysterious incident took place last week. The teenager was engaged, and the father of a baby boy.
“My son Hunter went to heaven today,” Eddie, of the duo Montgomery Gentry, said in a statement. “I appreciate all your prayers and love and thank you for giving us privacy as we grieve and say goodbye.”
A spokesman for the family said that they will not be explaining the accident “until the family is ready to release further information.”
Hunter had reportedly been on life support since Friday, and his mother Tracy Nunan had been by his side since then. On Sunday morning, she posted a short bible verse on Facebook.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken,” she wrote. “My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.”
Hunter was engaged to Davara Little, the mother of his baby son Bennett. He proposed to Davara during one of his father’s shows in August of 2014.
“My beautiful fiancé is amazing and I love her to death,” Hunter wrote on Facebook in June. “She’s a great mother and that is my boy right here. He’s amazing also I love him to death. These two people I swear make my world go around each day they’re what keep me going.”
Hunter was the youngest of Eddie’s four children with his first wife, Nunan. The country music star has been married to Jennifer Belcher since April of 2014.
Eddie Montgomery has had several Billboard Hot Country Songs number ones since first partnering with Troy Gentry in 1999. These songs include If You Ever Stop Loving Me, Something To Be Proud Of and Roll With Me.
Please pray for the entire Montgomery family during this devastating time.
