Kenny Rogers has been a legendary country music singer for decades now. However, on Friday, the legend made an announcement that will come as very sad news for all of his fans.
According to Daily Mail, Rogers has revealed that he will be retiring from music after one last tour.
The 77 year-old singer made the announcement during an appearance on the Today Show that was meant to promote his Christmas album.
“I wrote in my book that there’s a fine line between being driven and being selfish, and I think I crossed that line when I was younger,” Rogers said. “And I really want to be there with my kids and my wife. They’re really very important to me, and I don’t see enough of them.”
Rogers and his wife Wanda are the proud parents of 11 year-old twins boys Jordan and Justin. In addition, Rogers has three adult children from his four previous marriages. He acknowledged today that he has been thinking about retiring for quite some time.
“I’m sure I will miss it,” he said of being on the road. “I swore that I would do this until I embarrassed myself.”
“I don’t walk around well, so I’ve found some new humor,” he added. “My mobility is really driving me crazy.”
Rogers will not be leaving music quietly, however. He will be going out with a bombshell tour before giving his final performance on the Today Show.
“This is my 50-something year in the business. I have achieved everything I set out to achieve,” he said. “A lot of the stuff I have been doing requires that I be gone from home. I want them (my sons) to be: ‘I did this with my dad.’ That they did it with me.”
“I am gonna hang it up. I’ve done it long enough. I thought I would go out with a flurry. I have had a really good time,” he concluded. “Make it a world tour. It sounds egotistical – people have really supported me my whole career. I owe them a chance to say goodbye.”
While we will definitely miss Kenny Rogers, we can’t wait to see his final tour!
