When Eric Harrietha stopped at a gas station in Pierce County, Washington recently, he realized he accidentally left it running when he walked inside. When he returned to his vehicle, he caught a thug trying to steal it, and that’s when things got messy.
“When I saw someone sitting in my driver’s seat, I just saw red. I was like, you know what, this guy’s going to get it,” Harrietha recounted, according to The Blaze.
Harrietha immediately ran to his car, opened the front passenger door, and put the vehicle in neutral. Surveillance footage shows Harrietha wrestle the thug out of the car and onto the ground outside.
An off-duty cop then ran over and tried to break up the fight.
“At this point I have him like this. I’m talking kung fu grip. I’m not lettin’ him breathe,” Harrietha said. “I tried to stand up and put my foot on his head and he’s like ‘No, no, this guy’s had enough.”
The thug, who was later identified as Travis Warfel, begged for forgiveness because he “knew he was caught.” His apology, however, came too late.
Warfel was arrested at the scene and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, making or possessing motor vehicle theft tools and reckless endangerment. His bail has been set at $50,000.
Police, however, say that Warfel did not act alone, and they are now looking for two other suspects who were seen in a black Honda in the video. Harrietha is also hot on their trail.
“I’m going to be looking for that black Honda,” Harrietha promised.
