Americans have been watching and praying for Joey Feek as her journey with cervical cancer has her receiving hospice care at her childhood home in Indiana.
Rory Feek posted an update on his wife Joey’s health at the conclusion of Thanksgiving weekend. His words are both inspiring and heartbreaking as he experienced being surrounded by love and grief at the same time.
Joey is now confined to her bed, but her spirits are strong. Rory describes the ups and downs as a roller coaster. The good days have given Joey hope that perhaps her body is healing. This news is rather heartbreaking and beautiful. Her family is given a gift of quality time which has lead to optimism in the face of a devastatingly realistic situation.
There isn’t a day that goes by that she doesn’t look me and her family in the eye and say “I’m gonna beat this”, or “I’m getting better, I believe that”. And she asks me if I believe it, and I do.
I choose to.
For the most part, Joey’s time on hospice so far has been a roller coaster. One moment her light is very dim and she sleeps all the time and is struggling with the simplest of things. And we (along with the doctors and hospice) believe that the time must be very near…
And then, she’ll awaken one day and start talking and we’ll see that familiar spark in her eye. And she will be so crystal-clear with her thoughts, we will gather in the next room and say, “maybe, just maybe…?”.
And then she will take another downturn. Then an upturn. Back and forth. Sometimes many times in just one day. But today and the last few days have been incredible. Part of us once again believes that God is answering Joey’s prayer by healing her body and taking the cancer away, despite all the odds.
The couple also discussed how much to share with the public. Joey doesn’t want her fan’s lasting impression to be her only being sick. She wants to be remembered while in the prime of her life and career and she was concerned about being remembered only as a frail woman. Ultimately, they decided it is important to share their journey with the world to show that God is in control and to help others.
Has Joey’s journey helped you realize God is in control? Please share your thoughts.
