The impacts of a bitter divorce can be felt for years, especially when new spouses enter the picture. If a new wife worries about her place in the family and not feeling accepted, she may lash out. And unfortunately this can happen at some key life events.
One bride had the unfortunate experience of this happening at her wedding years after her parents got divorced. Jennifer’s father had remarried a 25 year old. And Jennifer realized both her mom and her new step mom had bought the exact same dress.
When Jennifer confronted her new step mom and asked her to chose a new dress, the 25 year old refused saying, “No way! I look amazing in this dress, and I’m wearing it.”
Jennifer broke the news to her mom. Her mom chose to get a new dress for the sake of her daughter’s sanity. “Don’t worry, darling. I’ll just find a new dress. It’s your special day and this won’t get in the way,” she told Jennifer.
So the bride and her mother went shopping and found a new dress. Then Jennifer asked her mom what she was going to do with the original dress since she didn’t have a reason to keep it.
“Of course I do! I’m going to wear it for the rehearsal dinner the night before your wedding,” the mother responded, revealing her plan to upstage the stepmom.
