Senator Rand Paul announced on Wednesday that he is suspending his presidential campaign.

The Kentucky senator will no longer be in the race, building on the powerful coalition built by his father Ron Paul.  He said in a statement, “It’s been an incredible honor to run a principled campaign for the White House. Today, I will end where I began, ready and willing to fight for the cause of Liberty.”

Paul made the decision after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucus. He only got about 5 percent of the vote there.

There is little doubt that Rand Paul is a true conservative who has done great things in his role of Kentucky Senator. He will return to his state, where he needs to be re-elected to his senate position; he is currently a top target of Democrats who hope to take back the senate, the Washington Post reports.

Are you happy that Paul dropped out of the race? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
