Those who are battling cancer have to deal with not only medical issues, but also the expense of treatments and the adjustments to their daily lives. Things such as cleaning can be downright impossible. Not being able to keep up with housework can be depressing as everything piles and dirties up. And when your immune system is compromised from chemotherapy, it can impact your health too.
But, there is a company that helps. Cleaning for a Reason provides free housecleaning for people with cancer. They have partnered with 1,200 cleaning services nationwide to help clean up for those undergoing the physical, emotional and financial strains that accompany a fight against cancer.
Debbie Sardone started Cleaning for a Reason in 2006. A woman called Sardone’s cleaning company for a quote. When the woman said she couldn’t afford it because she had cancer, Debbie reacted by cleaning homes of cancer patients for free.
Over $5,500,000 worth of services have been donated. Stacy Steele called Cleaning for a Reason when she was too weak to clean her home. She said, “Knowing your house is being taken care of when you don’t have the energy to get out of bed helps lift a huge stress from you. When you’re not feeling good, the last thing you want to do is go into a dirty bathroom.”
Bravo! What a wonderful service. Being in a clean home can make such a difference to lift your mood. And it’s debilitating not being able to accomplish this.
It’s amazing how something so simple can really help someone out during a difficult time. Not only does it lighten the load of a cancer patient, but it shows that people care.
