For the last few days, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has been relentlessly berating current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump with attacks. Later today, Romney has now announced that he will be giving a speech on “the state of the 2016 race.”
Though Romney won’t be endorsing a candidate or entering the race himself, a top aide said his remarks “will be worth covering.”
According to Daily Mail, Romney has spent the last few weeks suggesting there’s a “bombshell” waiting in Trump’s tax records, which would explain why the billionaire has yet to release them. Trump, however, said at the last debate that he hasn’t released his tax records because he is being audited. Romney took to Twitter at the time to say he wasn’t buying Trump’s excuse.
“No legit reason [Donald Trump] can’t release returns while being audited, but if scared, release earlier returns no longer under audit,” Romney wrote.
“[Donald Trump’s] taxes for the last 4+ years are still being audited,” Romney continued. “There are more #bombshells or he would release them.”
Romney has devoted his last six tweets to taking down Trump, even commenting on the David Duke KKK endorsement scandal.
