Bob Hope’s playful jabs at Democrats were legendary. The late comedian sure knew how to deliver a punchline!
Hope loved the troops and performed his first USO Show on May 6, 1941 at California’s March Field. He entertained millions of troops and their families.
In fact, Hope was the first person to be made an Honorary Veteran. In October 1997, Resolution 75 was unanimously passed in his honor for his extensive humanitarian work.
Here’s his most famous zinger from “The Ghost Breakers,” a comedy from 1940 starring Hope, Paulette Goddard, and Richard Carlson:
Here’s the transcript of the spot:
Bob Hope: “You live here?”
Hope: “Well, maybe you know what a zombie is?”
Carlson: “When a person dies and is buried, it seems a certain voodoo priest will have the power to bring him back to life.”
Paulette Goddard: “That’s horrible!”
Carlson: “It’s worse than horrible, because a zombie has no will of his own. You see them some times, walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.”
Hope: “You mean, like Democrats?”
