French Presidential Candidate and leader of the French National Front party Marine Le Pen just sent the Muslim world a huge message by refusing to put on a headscarf in a scheduled meeting with Lebanon’s grand mufti Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian.
“You can pass on my respects to the grand mufti, but I will not cover myself up,” Le Pen told aids of the cleric after they gave her a headscarf.
Upon hearing of Le Pen’s refusal to don a headscarf, the Sunni Muslim cleric immediately canceled the meeting.
This is a drastically different approach from Sweden’s self-described “feminist government” that visited Iran earlier this month. The heavily female delegation including Sweden’s Trade Minister Ann Linde were captured wearing headscarves “almost all the time” in Iran. The only times they weren’t wearing the headscarves was when events took place at the Swedish Embassy.

Le Pen has been steadily gaining in the polls over the last few weeks against her rivals in the French election. In fact, her popularity has grown from 1% to 27%.
Le Pen has taken a tough stance on security and immigration and she is adamantly against the European Union.
