According to Christian Today, women have been banned from wearing burqas in the capital of Xinjiang province, which is home to China’s largest Muslim community. State media announced the ban on Saturday, in an attempt to “curb growing extremism.”

“Burqas are not traditional dress for Uygur women,” read the statement. “The regulation is seen as an effort to curb growing extremism that forced Uygur women to abandon their colourful traditional dress and wear black burqas.” Urumqi has a population of 3.1 million people, most of whom are Muslim.

The Chinese government has effectively made good on their promise to crack down on the Islamic extremism preset in Urumqi, after terrorist attacks throughout China were carried out by jihadists from the region.

This decision will likely spur a mass exodus of radical Islamists from Urumqi, and consequently, it will be a much safer place. Share this report on Facebook and Twitter if you believe the burqa should be banned in America!
