Dog The Bounty Hunter showed off his political activism earlier this year as he and his wife Beth hosted a political fundraising event for Gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo in the governor of California race.

Duane “Dog” Chapman and Beth went straight from shooting their new CMT reality show Dog and Beth: On the Hunt to hosting the political event. Just one day before the fundraiser, the couple were in Colorado apprehending a suspect who turned violent.

“Our dispatch center received some information that there was some kind of pursuit going on involving a bondsman that was after somebody,” said Lakewood Police Department spokesman Steve Davis.

According to 9 News, shots were fired during the altercation.

“With a call like that we got a lot of units responding. A lot of manpower dedicated to that type of call,” added Davis.

The Chapmans had been in Colorado for three weeks, and they spent much of that time looking for David Anderson, who hadn’t appeared for his scheduled court date. When they finally caught up with him, he fled, starting a car chase. Unfortunately for him, Dog quickly caught up to him and took him down.

“We were trying to apprehend him when he took off at high speeds, ” said Beth Chapman. “The most important thing here is that the fugitive is in custody, his sort of little reign of terror ended here on this street and he was put into custody. More charges are being added.”

Just one day after the violent altercation, the Chapmans were back in California fighting to get their candidate elected. Now THAT’S the American way!
