The View is in mortal danger over the next few weeks, as the new president of the Disney-Abc Television Group is set to take over on Monday. One of his first orders of business will undoubtedly be deciding what to do about the sinking ship that is The View.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the once popular daytime talk show has seen it’s ratings plummet since it’s creator Barbara Walters left at the end of last year. Now helmed by the uncharismatic duo of Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell, the show has resorted to ridiculous political bickering that is anything but entertaining to watch.
Rosie and Whoopi have been at each other’s throats since the beginning of the season, when Rosie learned that Whoopi would be serving as moderator. Ever the narcissist, Rosie threw a hissy fit of epic proportions that has yet to end, or even slow down.
The salaries of Whoopi and Rosie are no longer sustainable for the fledgling show. Each bring in $5 million a year for the program, and Whoop will receive the same deal next year whether the show continues or not.
Insiders say ABC is strongly considering canceling The View and instead expanding
Good Morning America. Though the network denies this, they are definitely going to need to make some major changes if they want this show to stay afloat.
