Canada’s Sun News Network, often referred to as “Fox News North” went off the air on Friday after failing to find a buyer despite searching for months. The shut down has left 200 people out of work, and has also given President Obama ideas on how to get rid of America’s Fox News.

The network was founded in 2011 as an alternative to the strong “lefty bias” of the Canadian media. According to Weaselzippers, it struggled for ratings from the very beginning.

“Sun News Network, as a TV channel, is gone. But the people and ideas that animated it are still very much alive — and I’m sure many of them will go on to even greater things,” said Ezra Levant, an outspoken pundit for the network. “I hope they’ll bring with them some of our spirit. That is, being independent, contrarian, conservative, irreverent, and politically incorrect.”

A major contributing factor to Sun News Network’s demise was a 2013 ruling by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, Canada’s broadcasting regulator, that denied the conservative channel the chance to be carried on basic cable.

“The federal broadcast regulator denied Sun News a guaranteed spot on basic cable TV packages in August 2013,” CBC reported, noting that the Sun Network News was denied the opportunities liberal outlets were given.

President Obama is reportedly studying the shut down in order to glean ideas as to strategies of shutting down Fox News in the U.S. We suggest he doesn’t hold his breath, however, because we will NOT go down without a fight!
