Reports are circulating the globe today that say that Russian president Vlademir Putin is dead.
Putin has not been seen in public in eight days, which has led to rumors to spread that he has died. Reports of an official death notice briefly appeared on Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s website, but they were quickly removed.
The speculation started when the Kremlin uploaded photos of Putin meeting with the Head of the Republic of Karelia. Though the Kremlin claimed the pictures were from March 11, it was later revealed that they are from over a week ago.
President’s Putin’s office has denied the rumors, saying he is very much alive.
“There is no reason to worry…everything is fine,” said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, according to Yahoo.
However, there are a number of holes in what the Kremlin has been saying. A number of official events have been cancelled, including a trip Putin was planning to Kazakhstan.
“It looks like [Putin] has fallen ill,” an anonymous Kazakh government official commented.
News blog Russkiy Monitor also received an anonymous tip from the Moscow Central Clinical Hospital saying that Putin had suffered a stroke.
We’ll update you as soon as we hear more about Putin’s condition.
