A Japanese family was visiting some samurai tombs last year when they decided to take a picture of their young daughter. When they recently went back to look at it, they were stunned by what they saw.

The figure appears to be clad in black boots much like the ones samurais wear, leading some to suggest that the mysterious person is the ghost of a samurai from the nearby tombs. When the image was posted online by a friend of the family who swore the image was “not photoshopped,” theories immediately ran rampant.

“I’m not saying it’s anything – just that it looks an awful lot like disembodied boots and legs…” said one commenter.

“I know there are several very old samurai tombs nearby,” he added. “Again, not saying that this is what is there, just that, based on preliminary research, this is my best guess…”

“My grandfather was in the pacific theater (Okinawa Japan) in WWII and I recognize what the man in the background is wearing,” someone else commented. “Its a US Navy Uniform from WWII.”

Photographs from that same day show the girl with nothing behind her, making this all the more mysterious.

Do you think this was a ghost, or is there another explanation for this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
