Despite the fact that the nation has already turned on Obama, Hollywood continues to worship the ground he walks on. It was recently announced that a romantic comedy is being produced that is based on Michelle and Barack’s first date, and the film has just cast their two leads.
According to Time, the movie is called Southside With You, and it is set in 1989 Chicago, where a 27 year-old Barack Obama was working as a summer associate for the Sidley Austin law firm. Michelle was his office advisor, and in a rare smart move for her she rejected his first attempt to ask her on a date.
Unfortunately for all of us, Michelle finally relented, and the duo went on their first date to see the movie Do The Right Thing, which was directed by Spike Lee. They then kissed for the first time outside of an ice cream parlor. Gross.
Richard Tanne wrote the screenplay and he will also make his directorial debut on the film. Hollywood has also just announced who will be playing the coveted lead characters.
Barack Obama will be played by Parker Sawyers, who has small parts in Zero Dark Thirty and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. While he has had small roles in other films, this will be his first time playing the lead in a major film.
Michelle Obama will be played by Tika Sumpter, who has a bit more experience than her male costar. She’s had recurring roles in television shows like One Life To Live and Gossip Girl as well as roles in films like Salt and Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas.
Though filming isn’t set to start until this August, we’re going to get our barf bags ready now, because this movie is definitely going to make us sick…
