Liberals are up in arms this week after a photo of a high school prom went viral.
The image shows eight students at Chaparral High School in Parker, Colo. posing in their prom outfits next to a confederate flag. Much to liberals’ chagrin, the students are also holding two rifles.
According to Conservative Tribune, other parents at the school were outraged when they saw the photo, and they blamed other parents for encouraging the pose.
“I think in their immaturity they kind of think it is a cowboy thing, but to have parents feed into it and support it is really upsetting to me,” said one unidentified parent.
The photo has since gone viral outside of the school, and liberals across the country are weighing in.
“The image is pretty disturbing, especially if they have real assault rifles in their hands,” said Arturo Aldama, a University of Colorado-Boulder ethnic studies professor. “Not to mention, the Confederate flag and its legacy of white supremacy, Klan violence and the Jim Crow South.”
While the flag has become a symbol for White supremacy in the wake of the Civil War, it actually was seen quite differently when the confederacy was actually around. The flag still holds a special place in the hearts of southerners that often doesn’t have anything to do with racism. Instead, they see it as more of a patriotic symbol of what the south is and was.
The students were made to apologize, even though they are guaranteed the right to hold both a confederate flag and a gun by our constitution.
