From a distance, this tree looks like it’s covered in insects. However, what it’s really covered in may surprise you.

The bark of this tree is actually covered in metal coins. This is because it is a wishing tree, and there are trees like this scattered all over the U.K.



People from all over the world come to these trees and hammer coins onto them for good luck.


This tradition has been going on since at least 1700, but probably even earlier than that. They were written about by Queen Victoria in 1877, and people still travel to visit them today from all over the globe.
