Whataburger is one of the most popular fast food restaurants in Texas, but they just made a despicable move that has conservatives everywhere outraged.

According to USA Today, Whataburger has announced that they will not allow customers to openly carry guns in their restaurants, despite the new law that was just signed by Governor Greg Abbott that allows Texas citizens to openly carry handguns.

“We’ve had many customers and employees tell us they’re uncomfortable being around someone with a visible firearm who is not a member of law enforcement,” the company’s CEO Preston Atkinson wrote a statement released July 2. “As a business, we have to listen and value that feedback.”

The statement pointed out that Whataburger has not allowed guns in their restaurants for “a long time,” but that the issue has come up again due to the new law. While customers cannot openly carry guns, Whataburger has said they can still carry concealed licensed guns. They also told the press that they support gun rights.

“I want you to know we proudly serve the gun rights community,” Atkinson said. “I personally enjoy hunting and also have my concealed carry license.”

Whataburger has 780 locations in 10 states, but they get much of their business in Texas. It remains to be seen whether this will have a negative impact on their business. What do you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
