When doctors told Jenny Kavanagh, 45, that she had a 10cm mass growing in her left ovary, she immediately feared that it was cancer. Instead, it turned out to be something far more creepy…
According to New York Daily News, doctors later discovered that the mass in the British mom’s ovary was actually her “unborn twin.” The twin had been growing inside Kavanagh since she was born, and it had even developed a face, an eye, a tooth and long black hair.
“It’s difficult to describe how I felt when I saw it,” Kavanagh recounted. “I felt shocked, very scared, horrified and it felt like an alien was inside me.”
Five years ago, Kavanagh underwent a three hour operation to remove her twin.
“It is possible that there were twin embryos and one enveloped the other”, she explained. “The fact that it had long black hair – just like mine – a face, with one eye and one baby tooth, makes it more believable.”
While the mother of two admitted she’s never been to a gynecologist, she also said there were no issues with either of her pregnancies. Kavanagh has since done her best to not get emotional about her unborn twin.
“If I’m honest, I did feel sad when I first saw it, because of the size and weight of it, it had already been likened to a baby,” she said. “But I try not to feel sad about it. I try to remember that it had no heart and no brain. And that it would have almost certainly killed me if they hadn’t found it and removed it.”
Though Kavanagh has been able to move on from the ordeal, she admitted it was tougher for her elderly mother.
“She saw it as her unborn child, and my unborn twin.”
