Last week, liberals everywhere were outraged after it was revealed that Minnesota dentist Dr. Walter Palmer had killed the beloved Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe during a hunting expedition.

The Obama administration quickly responded by announcing that they had launched an investigation into Palmer. Now, Zimbabwe has started extradition proceedings for Palmer in the hopes of bringing him back to the country to face charges.

Oppah Muchinguri, Zimbabwe’s environment minister, accused Palmer of luring Cecil out of a protected reserve and killing him in “a well-orchestrated agenda which would tarnish the image of Zimbabwe and further strain the relationship between Zimbabwe and the USA.”

“The lion had a fitted GPS satellite collar as part of current research efforts being done in Hwange National Park and its surrounding areas,” a statement released by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority read, according to Conservative Tribune. “The lion was well known and regularly sighted by tourists.”

Palmer, however, has argued that he is innocent, saying he hired local guides to ensure that the hunt was legal.

“I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt,” he said in a statement issued last week.

It remains to be seen whether or not the U.S. will honor Zimbabwe’s request for extradition. However, since liberals across the nation are up in arms about this, things aren’t looking good for Palmer…
