Earlier today, John Boehner suddenly resigned from his position as Speaker of the House. Hours later, speculation as to who his replacement will be has already begun.

According to Breitbart, California Rep. Kevin McCarthy is now considered the frontrunner for the job. McCarthy has long been considered a future leader of the Republican party, and earlier this month it was reported that he was being considered an alternate to Boehner.

The first Republican in his family, 50 year-old McCarthy was a successful businessman before he entered politics. According to The Washington Post, McCarthy became a state assemblyman in 2002 and successfully ran for congress in 2006. He has won every election he’s been in ever since, winning at least 70% of the vote every time.

McCarthy has long been a thorn in the side of California Democrats, but Republicans have always loved him dearly. Do you think he would make a good Speaker? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
