Back in August, a terrorist boarded a train in France intending to kill as many people as he could. He didn’t count on some American veterans being onboard…

One of the heroes who took the terrorist down that day was U.S. Airmen Spencer Stone, who recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! According to Little Things, Stone told the host that it was actually luck that kept him alive, as the terrorist’s gun had somehow jammed when it was aimed at Stone’s head.

Kimmel was visibly touched by Stone’s humble attitude.

“You say ‘you got lucky,’ but you could have also not been on that train,” Kimmel said. “I think everybody else on that train got lucky is what happened.”

Kimmel then gave Stone a few surprises that he had been hiding during the interview: a brand new car, and memorabilia from his favorite basketball team! We’re used to Kimmel being a hilarious television host, but it was nice to see him get serious to help out one of our bravest veterans.
