An American Airlines captain died at the controls on a flight from Phoenix to Boston early this morning.

According to Daily Mail, the pilot died despite a medically trained flight attendant’s desperate attempts to revive him. The first officer was heard radioing to ground control saying that the pilot had become “incapacitated.”

The plane reportedly left Phoenix at 12:08am and was diverted to Syracuse, where it landed at 7:10 this morning.

“Medical emergency, captain is incapacitated, request handling for runway 108,” the first officer said as he radioed Syracuse ground control.

The plane is believed to have continued to Boston after the pilot was removed by emergency services. One of the passengers took to Twitter to announce the terrible tragedy.

American Airlines has not yet commented on the pilot’s death, saying that they will release a statement “soon.”

We pray for the pilot’s soul, and thank God that the plane was able to land safely despite his death!
