Texas liberals got some bad news this week when their precious equal rights ordinance in Houston failed by a wide margin yesterday.

According to, the law offered broad non-discrimination protections, but voters chose to repeal it largely because it would allow men dressed as women, including sexual predators, to use women’s bathrooms.

Supporters of the law released a bitter statement on Tuesday night:

“We are disappointed with today’s outcome, but our work to secure nondiscrimination protections for all hard-working Houstonians will continue. No one should have to live with the specter of discrimination hanging over them. Everyone should have the freedom to work hard, earn a decent living and provide for themselves and their families.”

The ordinance banned discrimination on both gender identity and sexual orientation as well as 13 other class protected under federal law that include: sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, disability, pregnancy and genetic information, as well as family, marital or military status.

As a strong backer of ordinances like these, this will undoubtedly come as very bad news to Obama. Yet another fail, Mr. President!
