Caitlyn Jenner was recently awarded the Woman of the Year award from Glamour Magazine, and the husband of a former honoree is not happy about it.

According to Daily Mail, NYPD police officer Moira Smith was given the award in 2001 after she was killed while evacuating people from the World Trade Center, saving countless lives in the process. Her husband James Smith, now 53, was livid when he found out Jenner would be receiving the same award as his heroic wife.

Smith has reportedly now fedexed the award back to Glamour Magazine along with a letter slamming them for “insulting” the memory of his wife by giving the award to Jenner. He wrote that though he was “honored” to accept the award on his wife’s behalf in 2001, Glamour’s latest decision is a “slap in the face to the memory of our hero.”

I was shocked and saddened to learn that Glamour has just named Bruce Jenner ‘Woman of the Year,'” Smith wrote. “I find it insulting to Moira Smith’s memory, and the memory of other heroic women who have earned this award.”

“Was there no woman in America, or the rest of the world, more deserving than this man?” he added. “At a time when we have women in the armed forces fighting and dying for our country, heroic doctors fighting deadly diseases, women police officers and firefighters putting their lives on the line for total strangers, brave women overcoming life threatening diseases. Is this the best you could do?”

Moria Smith was one of 23 NYPD officers to die on 9/11, and she was the only female cop to lose her life on that day. She left behind her husband and their two year-old daughter Patricia.

“We were proud to honor his wife . . . in 2001, and we stand by our decision to honor Caitlyn Jenner,” a Glamour spokeswoman said. “Glamour’s Women of the Year Awards recognize women with a variety of backgrounds and experiences.”
