If you live near Richmond, Kentucky, you may see blue lights around your neighborhood tonight. The reason why is sure to bring a tear to your eye…

Officer Daniel Ellis was only 33 years-old when he was shot dead by a gas station thief as he searched his apartment. The shooter has been identified as 34-year-old Raleigh Sizemore Jr., and we’re sure he’ll get exactly what’s coming to him at his trial for taking the life of a police officer over a few items from a gas station.

According to American Overlook, the people of Richmond have come up with a special way to honor Ellis. Karen Prewitt, owner of the Bluegrass Ace Hardware, thought up a great way to pay tribute to the fallen cop.

“We decided to check with out warehouse… to see how many blue lightbulbs they had available that we could purchase,” Prewitt said. “They had enough that it would make an impact on the community. This let’s the community feel like they could be involved and show support for the local, county and state law enforcement.”

From Monday to Wednesday of this week, there will be blue lights all over Richmond in honor of Ellis. If you see one, be sure to say a prayer for the soul of the brave officer who gave his life protecting the American people.
