A six time felon made a fatal flaw when he and another long time criminal decided to break into a home where a thirteen year old homeschooled boy was home alone. They soon found that believing this youngster to be an easy target was a colossal mistake.

The teen became suspicious when he saw a unfamiliar gray car behind his house. The boy grabbed his mom’s gun and started firing at Lamar Anthwan Brown and Ira Bennett when they attempted to enter the house.

After Brown was shot by the young teen, Bennett drove him to the hospital and dropped him off at the emergency room. Brown died and now Bennett faces charges of first-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Neighbor Debbie Griffin called police when she heard six shots. Her son was outside and witnessed the burglary. The young hero does not wish to speak to reporters. Griffin said he wishes this would have never happened.

The boy’s mother had the gun for personal protection but never taught her son how to use it. “I tell my kids that if anything ever happens to call 911, but I also tell them to protect themselves if they have to,” she said. “I never would have dreamed that this would have been a part of our day today.”

Thankfully, the boy had access to the gun. Police found a Colt .45 the thugs dropped in the yard when they were fleeing. While it was obviously a traumatic experience, he is safe because he was prepared.

When did you first learn to shoot a gun? Would you or your children be prepared if someone broke into your home? Please join the discussion.
