The Obama administration has just announced that they will be moving forward with one of the biggest transfers of Guantanamo Bay prisoners ever before Christmas Day.

According to Allen B West, the Pentagon has notified lawmakers that they will probably be transferring another 17 detainees by Christmas as part of Obama’s push to empty Guantanamo. Lawmakers will be briefed about what’s happening today, but at this time the shortlist for the transfers as well as the host nations are not known.

Defense Secretary Ash Carter has told congress that he approves of the 17 transfers, and if this moves forward as planned, it will be the largest amount of transfers from Guantanamo in a single month since 2007. It will also bring the number of prisoners at Guantanamo down to 90.

Clearly, Obama is doing this now because he hopes that Americans will be too distracted by the holidays to realize the danger he is putting all of us in. We can only hope that this plan is derailed before 17 more deadly terrorists are set free…
