Dr. Robert Hamilton has been practicing pediatrics in Santa Monica, California for over 30 years. The veteran doctor has seen and held thousands of crying babies over that time. And he’s learned how to calm an upset newborn.

He refers to this technique as “The Hold.” And in a video he uploaded to Youtube, you can see him in action, soothing hysterical babies.

Dr. Hamilton suggests folding the baby’s arms over his chest, then hold the child at a 45 degree angle with one of your hands on his chest and holding his neck. The other hand should be rocking the child’s booty.

Using “the hold,” Dr. Hamilton demonstrates how to quiet a child who just got his shots. Within seconds, the upset child is calm.

How do you quiet a screaming baby? Watch the video below and then share your technique!
