Latoya Ellis is a single mom who found herself in a terrible predicament. She was evicted from her apartment earlier this year and was living in a homeless shelter with her children. A Chicago TV station profiled her story and an anonymous person was so moved that he paid Latoya’s rent for a full year.

The Ellis family was able to move from a shelter to an apartment because of the generosity of a stranger. The family was able to safely celebrate Christmas in their new home.

Latoya reports that she is planning on returning to college in the spring to finish her Bachelor’s degree so she can better provide for her children. Her dream is to open a catering business.

While this is an incredibly generous gesture, it is not the only one. Earlier this year, a police officer in Hamilton, Ohio saw children sleeping in the lobby of the police station. He used his own money to get this family an apartment. You can see a video of that below.

In an age when we seem to hear so many inhumane stories, these should take precedence. While many of us can’t donate on this level, there are simple ways we lighten the load of others.

What are ways that you pay it forward? Please share!
