A thug in Jersey City was shot early Thursday morning after he dragged a police officer with his vehicle.

It all started just before 1am, when two police officers noticed a stolen vehicle on Ocean Avenue, so they pulled the driver over. According to Pix 11, the driver sped off after briefly stopping, dragging one of the officers a short distance and seriously injuring his leg.

As the officer was being dragged, his quick thinking allowed him to reach for his gun and shoot the driver through the windshield, hitting the thug in the head. This move likely saved the officer’s life.

The driver was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, and doctors say he will likely make a full recovery. The officer has also been hospitalized with what doctors believe could be a broken leg.

Jersey City Mayor’s Office released the following statement about the shooting:

“As the use of deadly force is the most serious action an officer takes on our behalf, Mayor Fulop has consistently supported an impartial investigation by a completely different entity and a presentation of the facts to a grand jury in all such cases. As always, we will cooperate fully with the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.”

We pray that the brave officer involved in this makes a full recovery!
