Sofia Andrade, a single mother of three, had just won $200 from a scratch-off lottery ticket when she came across homeless man Glenn Williams last weekend. Instead of using the money on herself and her children, she decided he needed it more than she did.
“I knew that the money never really belonged to me,” Andrade told WCVB. “This money was meant to help him.”
Andrade called Williams, who had been homeless for the passed three years, over to her car and took him to a coffee shop. According to Conservative Tribune, Williams was especially grateful for this since he had been outside in freezing temperatures all day as the local shelter was out of beds.
“He was so overwhelmed by just the generosity of a coffee that he just couldn’t stop crying,” said Andrade.
The young mother then took Williams to a motel and bought his room. After leaving him there, Andrade wrote about the experience and started a GoFundMe page to raise money for him. In just two days, the page has raised three times the requested $15,000.
It didn’t take long for people to start showing up at Williams’ door offering things like clothing and even a free haircut.
“I couldn’t believe there’s somebody like her,” said a very emotional Williams. “She deserves a lot of the credit for where I am right now.”
