Have you ever wondered what the small pocket is on your jeans? It’s too small to fit anything significant, but it’s not just a design. It actually used to have a purpose.

Back in the 19th century, men used to carry pocket watches. Levi’s added the small pocket to pants as a special place to keep your watch. Perth Now recently reported on this.

“It’s a watch pocket. Back in the 1800s, cowboys used to wear their watches on chains and kept them in their waistcoats. To keep them from getting broken, Levi’s introduced this small pocket where they could keep their watch.”

So, while the function of the pocket is no longer needed, it remains even though fashion has evolved.

Jeans today have changed significantly. The trend for young men is to wear skinny jeans. As you can see in the video below, one man credited his skinny jeans with saving his wallet during a mugging. Apparently, his jeans were so tight that the thugs couldn’t get his money out of his pocket.

Frankly, I’d prefer to carry a gun and wear regular jeans than count on skinny jeans to protect my money. The hipster look doesn’t seem like a good way of protecting yourself. In my opinion, that makes you look like a target.

What do you think cowboys would think of skinny jeans? Please join the discussion.
