An amateur photographer got the pictures of a lifetime while in Kenya. Kimberly Maurer was vacationing at a reserve in Maasai Mara when she saw a male water buffalo sleeping under a tree. A female elephant surprised him and he charged her.

The water buffalo head butted the elephant. This is out of character for a water buffalo, so rangers believe he was not well. The elephant responded by impaling the animal and tossing him in the air.

She set the water buffalo down but continued to nudge him with her trunk.

The one tusked female elephant left in victorious fashion with her head held high on alert. The three baby elephants accompanying her were very vocal during the attack.

Many seem to think of elephants as gentle creatures, but like any wild animal, there can be another side to them. As you can see in the video below, tourists on a safari had a terrifying interaction with an elephant.

Warning: This video may make your heart race!

How would you react if an elephant was coming after you like that?
