As soon as next month, the US Air Force will be using B-52s to drop bombs on ISIS. They have been used in Iraq and Afghanistan, but their power hasn’t yet been unleashed upon ISIS.

B-52s initially were designed to be high-altitude, long-range nuclear bombers that were used during the Cold War. They can carry up to 70,000 pounds of missiles and bombs.

Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James said, “While the B-1s will be receiving much needed modernization and maintenance, the venerable B-52, with its similar capacity and accuracy and endurance, remains ready and able to meet combatant commander requirements. Now, we’re waiting for final approval, but there have been recent infrastructure improvements that now allow the necessary support to deploy the B-52 in theater.”

The Pentagon also announced that it is waging cyber warfare on ISIS as well. The brutal terrorists have used social media to recruit and further terrorize people, so this is an important front in this war against radical Islam.
