Coach Buzz Williams had enough of his basketball players’ disrespectful attitude during the National Anthem. So, the Virginia Tech coach decided to do something about it.

He brought some veterans in to meet with his players. Williams wanted his players to realize what the National Anthem is about and how people sacrificed for their freedoms.

“These guys, when they were your age, interrupted their life, they paused their education, they changed their career, and they gave their life for those chairs,” Coach Williams told the basketball players. “So when the Anthem is played, we’re going to stand like grown men and we’re going to honor men like this, that gave their life, so we can have a chair to sit in.”

Williams wanted his players to come face to face with those who love our country so much that they put their lives on hold and on the line for our freedoms. This wasn’t just a lesson in history, but it was also a lesson on respect and being thankful.

We need more coaches like this who take time to remember details outside of the actual game. Many people watch these games so we need to stop the culture of disrespect. This video needs to go viral in hopes that other coaches follow his lead. Many people watch these games and they see the players’ actions during the anthem.

If you agree with this coach, please share this story!
