People say that parents should never have to know the pain of burying their own children. I certainly wouldn’t even wish that on my worst enemy. Sadly, Mia Bierra’s parents and family are mourning their 18-year-old’s death. By all accounts, Mia was an easy going, popular, and happy young woman and loved by so many in her community.

According to police, 20-year-old Joseph Espinoza had his car in the right lane to fix a flat tire. A pickup truck traveling south struck both Espinoza and his vehicle with Mia inside. The details are not clear, but apparently the other driver was not speeding nor drunk and in fact, helped pull Bierra from the car which had caught fire.

There’s one bright spot in the midst of this horrible tragedy. Since Mia was an organ donor, eight people across the country will be the recipients of her heart, lungs, kidneys and other organs. This will not ease her parent’s grief, but they are proud that she could help others.
